Why you should retire to the KZN South Coast: your next perfect destination
Nestled on the South-Eastern edge of South Africa, the KZN (KwaZulu-Natal) South Coast is often an overlooked gem compared to more famous destinations like Cape Town or Durban. However, for those seeking a blend of natural beauty, coastal charm, and a more relaxed lifestyle, it’s the perfect place to plant new roots. Here’s why you should consider moving to the KZN South Coast:
01. Stunning Natural Beauty
The KZN South Coast is a paradise for nature lovers. With its lush subtropical forests, golden beaches, rolling hills, and scenic coastal routes, it’s hard to find a place more naturally diverse. The coastline stretches for more than 120 kilometres, offering plenty of opportunities to enjoy the Indian Ocean’s warm waters, whether you’re into surfing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the sea.
Mbango Valley, situated on the South Coast, is home to a unique blend of ecosystems and wildlife, making it perfect for nature and birdwatching enthusiasts. If you’re someone who craves green spaces, beach walks, and breathtaking sunrises, the KZN South Coast and Mbango Valley will be your dream come true.
02. Affordable Cost of Living
Compared to major urban areas like Johannesburg or Cape Town, the cost of living on the KZN South Coast is significantly more affordable. Property prices are notably lower, meaning you can find spacious homes with scenic views at a fraction of the cost of properties in larger cities. For Retirees looking to stretch their money, this is a huge selling point.
Everyday expenses like groceries, fuel, and dining out are generally cheaper here, so your monthly budget goes much further.
03. Pleasant Climate Year-Round
With its subtropical climate, the KZN South Coast offers warm temperatures year-round. Even in the cooler months, it’s mild enough to enjoy outdoor activities without bundling up. Summers are warm and humid, perfect for enjoying the beach, while winters remain comfortably cool and dry.
This year-round temperate weather also encourages an active lifestyle, whether you prefer beach sports, cycling, hiking, or simply enjoying the outdoors while retired at Mbango Valley.
04. A Welcoming Community
The KZN South Coast and Mbango Valley boast a friendly and tight-knit community. It’s a place where you’ll quickly get to know your neighbours, and the small-town feel encourages a sense of safety and belonging. The local residents are known for their warm hospitality, and whether you’re a local or newcomer, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to connect with others. There are also a variety of local events, markets, and festivals throughout the year that help foster a strong community spirit.
05. Vibrant Outdoor Lifestyle
Whether you’re into sports, wildlife exploration, or simply unwinding in nature, the KZN South Coast has something for everyone. The region boasts world-class diving spots, beautiful hiking trails, and excellent golf courses. If you’re a fan of fishing, the coastline is famous for its deep-sea fishing opportunities.
For those who enjoy a slower pace, there are plenty of cafés, markets, and beautiful gardens to explore. The tranquil vibe of this coastal region makes it easy to embrace a balanced lifestyle that encourages outdoor exploration and relaxation.
06. A Hub for Tourism and Business Growth
While it might be quieter than bustling cities, the KZN South Coast is still a growing region with plenty of economic potential. Tourism plays a vital role in the local economy, meaning there’s an ongoing demand for accommodations, restaurants, and other services.
07. Convenient Location
One of the best things about the KZN South Coast is its strategic location. Mbango Valley is close enough to Durban (roughly 1 ½ hours away), giving residents easy access to a major city with an international airport, large shopping malls, and top-tier medical and educational facilities. However, you’ll get to enjoy the peacefulness and natural beauty of the South Coast without the hustle and bustle of city life.
Additionally, the proximity to major highways makes it easy to travel to other parts of the province or even neighbouring areas like the Eastern Cape. There are very reasonably priced shuttles travelling between the coast and airports and other spots in Durban.
08. Safe and Peaceful Living
Safety is a priority for many when considering a move, and the KZN South Coast offers a relatively safe and peaceful environment. The community’s close-knit nature, combined with the area’s peaceful surroundings, makes it ideal for individuals or families who are looking to escape the stress and pace of urban life.
A Place to Call Home
The KZN South Coast, where Mbango Valley is situated, offers an irresistible combination of natural beauty, affordability, and community spirit that makes it an ideal place to live. Whether you’re after a more relaxed pace of life or simply a stunning coastal retreat, this region has it all.
